Bop Blues Work-Out on Bb7 Chord By Tim Sparks

This lesson explores some ways to spice up your blues with a jazzy scale.

Ex 1. is a fingering for B Flat Lydian Dominant (flat 7) Mode, which begins on the 4th degree of F Melodic Minor. The scale moves in a horizontal fingering box across the fretboard in a manner favored by players like George Bensen.

Ex 2/ 3. combine blues phrases with the Lydian Dominant scale and some added chromatic tones.

Ex4. is an alternate fingering of a Lydian Dominant ending in another Bop style flourish. The note values here are semi-quavers, but feel free to experiment with timings and incorpate these phrases into your own way of doing things. Have fun.
