"State
of the Art" Acoustic Guitar Music from Acoustic Music Records

Acoustic Music Record's catalogue is devoted almost exclusively
to acoustic guitar music. Their roster of insanely gifted acoustic
guitar players includes: Duck Baker, Woody Mann, Stefan Grossman,
Tim Sparks, Pierre Bensusan and Bob Brozman. To mention just a
few stella players.
Founded
at the beginning of the 90's by the German virtuoso guitarist
Peter Finger, Acoustic Music Records is going from strength to
strength. At the start the label was laughed at. Acoustic guitar
music! They were told there couldn't possibly be a market for
such a specialist musical area. How wrong the critics were.
Today
Acoustic Music Records is a melting pot of seriously hot acoustic
guitar music, a veritable crucible of fingerstyle excellence where
all musical styles are catered for including: blues, jazz, classical,
world music and hard to define cross-overs.
Of
course when presented with such a cornucopia of mind-boggling
talent, the question is where do you start? Which players do you
get into? Well, an excellent place to start is with their Acoustic
Guitar Highlights series. These taster CD's feature a collection
of tracks from different guitarists and are a great way of deciding
which players you'd like to hear more of. And even better, they
only cost around $6. A bargain if ever there was one.
Another
nice thing about Acoustic Music Records is that while they are
dedicated to showcasing the work of some of the world's very finest
acoustic guitarists, they have also thought of us mere mortals.
They produce tuition material, instructional books and CD's and
video workshops.

Rick
Payne's Fingerstyle Blues
This
book, with accompanying CD, is a concise introduction to the
art of Fingerstyle Blues guitar. Graduated
exercises, in order of difficulty, give you a thorough grounding
in the vital skill of thumb and finger independence.
You'll develop your ability
to improvise by looking at blues scales. You'll pick up specific
playing techniques such as dampened bass, walking bass, pick
and strum and alternating bass. And, of course, you'll apply
all this new found knowledge by playing real acoustic blues
tunes, including some challenging and fun to play Ragtime. If
you want enlightenment on the subject, this book puts Fingerstyle
Blues firmly in the spotlight and reveals the power and charm
of this beguiling style.
Apart from all the audio
examples you need, the CD accompanying the book includes 6 extra
audio tracks for your listening and learning pleasure.
