CHORD
HARMONY - Major
The joy
of the guitar is to sit around and strum a
few chords, maybe play your favourite song
or even make up one of your own. With all
those chords around where do we start? It's
a good idea to know which ones work well together.
Well just as there are eight notes in basic
major or minor scale so there are chords too.

Each scale
note has a chord built on to it called a triad
and each chord is given a roman numeral for
reference. Let's try all these chords in sequence:

They all
sound good in sequence but there are three
very strong chords: These are C F and G, especially
the F and G which are known as dominant chords.
These three chords are often known as the
three-chord trick or the I IV V progression.
To make
the three chords play together smoothly the
G chord is changed to a G7th:

There
are many sequences or progressions that work
well together. This one is very popular.
It's called the I VI IV V7 progression.
