Russell Rose, the proprietor of Avandel Guitars, is
making a Special AGW 000 Model, with walnut back
and sides. We thought this would be an interesting opportunity
to take you through the process of building a quality acoustic
guitar. If you have any questions, or want to make general
enquiries about Avandel Guitars, please contact Russell

1. The Rim At
the end of the last article we had just inlaid the rosette
so now we are ready to brace the top. The braces are cut
from a block of quarter sawn Spruce, and then sanded to
the correct dimensions.
Picture 1 The
Sound Hole patch, X Brace, Front Transom Brace and Bridge
Plate are glued into position using the Go Bar Deck.

Picture 2: The
Finger Braces and Tone Bars are then notched into the X
Brace and Glued in the go bar deck, this is all performed
using a radius dish to give the top its arch.

Once dried its time
to carve the bracing, during carving I tune both plates.

Now its time to prepare
the rim for assembly
The sides of the rim
need to be sanded to receive the Top and Back; this is done
using sandpaper dishes that correspond to the arch of the
back and Top.

The Radiused Rim

Next the Position of
the bracing is marked where them join the kerfed lining
and brace pockets are cut in the Kerfed linings to accommodate
the brace ends.
Then the Top and Back
are glued to the rim and a channel routed all the way round
to accommodate the bindings and Purfling, which are then
glued into the channel.
The Completed Body
all ready for final sanding and finishing

Now it's time to make
the neck.
