Russell Rose, the proprietor of Avandel Guitars, is
making a Special AGW 000 Model, with walnut back
and sides. We thought this would be an interesting opportunity
to take you through the process of building a quality acoustic
guitar. If you have any questions, or want to make general
enquiries about Avandel Guitars, please contact Russell

1. The Rim: At
the end of the last article we had just bent the sides and
locked them into a mold to dry, once dry we then assemble
the rim. The rim is made up of the sides, End and Tail Blocks.
Kerfed Linings (that will receive the top and the back),
and side bracing.

2. Fitting the Rosette:
After the
Top has been cut to its approximate shape it is time to
fit the rosette.Our
AGW guitar is having a single ring rosette made of Walnut
to match the body framed either side with BWB stripes.
The first stage is
to cut a channel of the correct dimensions to receive our
rosette.

Next our Rosette
components are glued into place

Once the glue is
dry we level our rosette

In the next article
we will brace the top
3. The Back: At
the same time as working on the rosette I like to start
work on the back.
First the Back is
cut to its approximate shape

Next the bottom of
the back braces are radiused on a convex dish to give the
back its shape when glued

Once prepare the
braces are glued in to position using the convex dish under
the back, and applying clamping pressure from above via
Ash rods, in a frame known as a go bar press

I would like to say
a big thank you to Andy Fellows of Prime Timbers for donating
the timber being used to construct this AGW Guitar.
