Franco Morone is without doubt a genius of the acoustic guitar and hands down one of our favourite players. His playing is always a miracle of solid grooves, great melodies and tone to die for. His repertoire is versatile, full of interest and delicious surprises.
Not only is Franco Morone a master of acoustic and fingerstyle blues, but he is well known as one of the finest interpreters of Irish music on the guitar. His album ‘The South Wind’ garnered this high praise: “The South Wind is important and meaningful as a whole and represents the best collection of Irish music for guitar to be issued in many years” (T. Kleemaier, Concerto – Austria). If you like celtic guitar music Franco’s ‘Road To Lisdoonvarna’ is also a must in your collection. As an Italian, Franco has also arranged a noteworthy selection of tunes from his own country. He presents popular Italian songs and traditional dances on his wonderful ‘Italian Fingerstyle Guitar’ CD. “A delighfully charming album, breezy and easy like a mediterranean summer evening” (Andreas Shülz, Akustik Gitarre – Germany).
AGW itself said this about his awesome ‘Miles of Blues’ CD “Wonderful fingerstyle blues grooves from a true master,a brilliant ambassador for fingerstyle guitar”. On this album his touch hardly falters, his attack is always just right, soulful and indubitably bluesy. Here are a couple of tunes from this collection: a sublime version of ‘Summertime’ and a tune called ‘Chicago’ that features fantastic groove and movement.
The other great thing about Franco Morone is that he is also a fine teacher (apparently he’s also a great chef, but that’s another story!). His annual workshops are an inspiration to all those who attend and who want to ‘learn the basics of fingerstyle technique and acquire progressive and advanced techniques of acoustic guitar.’ The 2012 event will be held from July 25th up to 29th at Centro Civico in Malosco (full details at francomorone.com).
If you can’t attend, then check out his instruction books and CD’s such as ‘Basic Fingerstyle’ and ‘My Acoustic Blues’. They are full of great ideas and tunes that are guaranteed to galvanise your playing.
And finally we’d just like to say thanks for the music, Maestro.
